The Musa Project provides hope, healing, and restored dignity to Ugandan women affected by obstetric fistula, while working to prevent future cases of this devastating and preventable condition.
Through expanded infrastructure, training, and community awareness, The Musa Project is committed to restoring dignity, health, and opportunity to women affected by this condition, transforming lives and communities across Uganda.
According to the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the country has an estimated 140,000 to 200,000 women living with obstetric fistula, with nearly 2,000 new cases reported each year.
The Musa Project is a transformative initiative designed to expand access to life-changing care for women throughout Uganda by building on the success of the dedicated fistula ward at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Our existing fistula ward in Western Uganda hosts 5-6 fistula camps annually, providing life-restoring surgery to hundreds of women. The Regional Hospital also serves as a training center for specialized surgeons under the guidance of Professor Kayondo.
Modeled on our ward in Mbarara, in 2025, we plan to break ground on a state-of-the-art, 50-bed fistula ward at the Regional Referral Hospital in Lira which is in the Northern part of Uganda.
in Central Uganda We plan to build this ward in 2026
Founded in 2003, the Bwindi Community Hospital was established with a special mission to support the Batwa pygmies, who were displaced from the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest when it was designated a National Park in 1991. Many Batwa live in extreme poverty, and the need for a fistula ward in this area is critical. We plan to build a ward here in 2027
Jinja Regional Referral Hospital is designated as an Internship center. We plan to build a 30 bed fistula ward here??? Not far from the source of the Nile in the South-Eastern part of Uganda. We plan to build this ward in 2028.
